DITCHED AGAIN!
Well guys, as no-one has come forward to write the report for this event (Danny's away) I have grabbed a few notes from a few riders and officials to bring you the following news snippets......
First, going by the comments made by a lot of riders, we would like to thank the 'Clerk of Course' Dean Roberts, 'Chief Marshall' Phil Thody, the Ambulance Crews and all the Marshals and other helpers for excellent jobs done. As we are all aware, without you we could not run the events.
And second, would like to thank all the riders for their good behaviour and of course the weather for holding out and improving during the day - the course was like an ice rink to start with and then the sun came and was most welcome for the last hour or so.
Chatteris - Fun Event! Big Wet Hole! do they really go together? quite a few riders thought not.
"Did it have to be so deep". "Did it have to have so much water". "Being able to get out on your own would have been good" and "Who do we thank !*&%!" were the main questions and comments.
One way out of it was to fall off and get a lift back in the ambulance, and this option was only taken up by one rider. Yep, poor old Nigel (woody) Herring decided to 'high side' in the final field next to the farm on his first lap! - probably expecting someone to bring him a cup of hot chocolate to make it better - but no! as professionals we got the ambulance and took him back to the pits. Thanks to Dean, Dave and Ray for their time in looking after the situation, diverting riders etc.
Ben (51)! What a year for you? Congratulations on winning the Under 21's Don Beane Trophy. For this event he borrowed his dads bike as he has now sold his KTM 125 - only to seize it up after the 4th lap! Look forward to seeing Ben with another bike for 2006?
Graham (9)! well done, back on track again after your wrist injury, with 10 laps done.
We had a quite a few first timers (with Tbec, not bike riding) Welcome to you all and we hope you enjoyed your first ride with the club?
First Timer!!!! Lee Roberts joined the club in November (yes, chairmans son) bagged a ride on Deans Yamaha DT125 and ripped it round the course no less than 8 times (falling off just as many times I have been told). I understand he used to ride Motocross? Good luck for 2006 Lee.
Second First Timer!!!! Allister Allen (Camerons Brother who owns the farm we ride at) has had a very competitive past in Trials riding which he retired from when the children arrived (happens to us all). So, lets borrow a nice Honda CRF 250 and have a proper ride around the farm - No less than 10 laps covered within the 3 hours winning the Bronze Medal in E class! I understand he was in a lot of muscle pain the next day and can't wait for next year?
Third First Timer!!!! Unlucky for some? Rider 546 had a bit of a come off in the ditch near the barns - luckily he came off before the bike landed IN THE DITCH completely. It took the Quad, Dean, Dave, Jock, Ray and the rider to get the bike out of the water and up onto the bank again, to be towed back to the pits for drying out.
The above confirms the need for Tbec to have a Quad at all events, which we have now acquired and it will do its bit at Rendlesham in May.
Last year Pete Bormond (377) was nudged into the large ditch (still on the bike) a good 10 feet down, and we had to get the farm owner to get a Tractor Lift to hoist it out.
Like to say good luck to Glen Smith (431) for the 2006 season on his recently acquired Husky 125 - I'm sure he is very pleased with his result?
Thank you Gill Childs for keeping the Tea and Burgers going
all day - what would we do without you eh? especially our 'bacon roll eating
Chairman" who retired as per normal after 2 laps for yet more Tea and
Burgers! The fat git !
Anyway, hope you all had a good Christmas and have a good New Year - keep riding.
