Butts Quarry Report 13-08-2006

I bring you bad news - Danny managed to get a shoulder injury whilst playing Ice Hockey, so did not make the event to Marshal and get any info for this report (he'll do anything to get out of work)!

The good news - There is no way that I can talk or write as much as him, therefore I give you a few snippets gathered on the day.

To start with, Ali and I were on holiday in Derbyshire during the Butts event, so we decided to come along, as we do, to get the results sorted, join in the committee meeting and generally help out over the weekend, but it began like this....

I was asked to partner a rider about ten days before as he didn't have one, I agreed, much to Ali's annoyance, only to be rang three days before the day by a rider who's partner had a sore leg and wimped out - fine, you can have my place, that'll please the missus? and so we did, and it did.

Are we glad we did, absolutely - we would have missed the classic car event that happened on the Saturday afternoon otherwise - those pink Austin Sevens, an old BMW convertible, a Ford Model A and many more climbing up the hill, fantastic! Ali was lucky enough to have a spin in an old open top Lagonda (no we cant have one), and Zak was lucky enough to have a go in every car!

The event was happening for a training session for new marshals - the drivers were doing things that would normally happen at hill climbs, slipping back, hitting posts and generally not driving like they should (bit like our Chairman eh)?

Anyway, it was an excellent part of the weekend and I hope they can make it next year.

Back to our event - The Carrots Cup - I hope all of you are aware of the new award for the Butts Quarry event - The Carrots Cup, the full details are on the website. It's a very sad story and I am sure we would all like to thank everyone involved for their generosity and connection with the club.

With that, the club would like to congratulate 404/405 for being the first winners of the cup and we hope to see you both at other events, especially next year (to bring the cup back of course).

I understand from Marshals that there were a few flying bikes at the top of the rises by the toilet block, one being  number 54 who was left on the top ledge while his bike carried on! This particular rider also found out on his first lap that "unbreakable levers" do not come with "unbreakable mounting brackets"! he still got back on and back to the pits for repairs coming in 4th overall - well done lads.

Phil Thody (8) on his first ride of the season was practising his falls at everybody's favourite drop off over the tree roots (picture tells all). He was fine and carried on till the end. There was quite a few moments at this point and we would like to thank the rider (sorry, forgot your names) and his daughter for looking after it all day.

I hear that Karl Herring (321) has won the award for most times in an ambulance at one event, twice and nearly three times was the rumour. Luckily they turned out to be minor injuries, kissed better by the big bloke in the ambulance (just kidding - keep it up Karl).

As normal the club would like to thank ALL marshals and officials for their efforts on the weekend, the marshalling was first class.

Well, that's enough from me and I look forward to the next event where anything could happen - Mopeds, Disco and of course, Danny returning for the next episode.
