Whaddon 2 Day Event Report March 2006

Hi folks

Danny not able to do this report - had a bad week before the event, starting with a bang on the head ending in stitches and then can you believe it, he invited some of his French friends over to watch the England/France Rugby game at his place !!!!!!!! (bet he wished he came to Whaddon now?)

So here are a few snippets of the Whaddon 2 day event......

DOGS - THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED - PLEASE DON'T BRING THEM - YOU WILL BE EXCLUDED FROM THE EVENT.

Thanks:
First lets thank the boys for taking charge this weekend - thought they did an excellent job. So well Done Dean and Sam.

Thanks to All Marshals (special thanks to rider 314 kids - Tara and Zack for assisting at the Boggy bits!) and Officials for doing the technical bits.

The New Gazebo!
Good use was made of the new Gazebo and Van over the weekend - it certainly kept everyone dry during signing on and collecting tags.

The Quad:
What would we have done without the quad? the perfect tool for the job - lost count to how many bikes it pulled out out of the bogs - now if we can only get Dean to keep it on two wheels he might get a little more traction?

Saturday!
Saturday was a dire day, really wet - the conditions were pretty awful (glad I wasn't entered - I'm a wimp you see) but most of the bikes that started the 3 hour trek finished as well.

Tight Git!
Nigel Herring (352) - The news is that he has nearly used up the whole gallon of 2 star he bought in 1988 for his first bike. Maybe a little more octane will get his KTM moving a bit more and get another lap in sometime? Story goes he needed to save a bit of fuel for the next event. Someone heard him ask Dave if 2 star was still 50p per gallon?

Dave Roberts (6) - Never thought I would see the day that Dave did the same laps as our number 1 - but he finally found second gear and managed a good handful of laps, think he was after a medal?

Darren (599) - We have been asked to issue you with armbands and snorkel next time you do  Whaddon - something about a lot of water?

Quick Young Lad?
Very impressed with young Richard Blunt (83) he really knocked the laps out - keep it up Richard.

Women Drivers!
Sharon Bell (410) - done really well considering the conditions - think she managed a lap on Saturday before being rescued - didn't she do well?

Letticia Jaques (197) - her first event with us on Saturday - did 3 laps - brilliant - and her
Pink attire brought colour to the meeting.
In her own words (from Yahoo Groups) "Just to say thank you to all those nice Gents who helped me pick my bike up and get out of various bogs and ditches on Saturday at Whaddon - really much appreciated. Really enjoyed Whaddon on Saturday as my first ever enduro!! (NOT) But it was well worth the challenge, glad I did it. Thanks again"
Letticia 197 (Chick in pink)
Note: how come Nigel was there every time she fell off??

We look forward to seeing you both at future events, as long as Saturdays rare conditions didn't put you off.

Sunday!
Sunday - started off a bit hard (frozen) loosening up to a grease pan and the afternoon session
couldn't have been better - plenty sticky.

A few riders decided not to ride due to the track condition, but the ACU Steward, with assistance from club officials, rode the track and took the decision that the course was totally rideable and wished to proceed.

The track was reversed on Sunday afternoon which seemed to be the best time had by all - all the boggy uphills became downhills making the riding that little bit easier with a lot less bikes stuck.

Casualties?
Ambulance only had one call - arm fracture I think?

Serious message: a reminder to riders - IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK THE
LIGHTS COME ON AND THE POD BEEPS EACH TIME YOU TAG - there is always the possibility that you are too quick - these laps will not count in the future.

See you all soon.
